Bike, Wine, & Dine...On Broadway

Just take a moment and imagine… a relaxing, yet active, day trip filled with spectacular scenery, exceptional food, fine wine, laughter, great shopping and unforgettable memories. Doesn’t it sound amazing?

Escape from your everyday, fast-paced, lifestyle and spend some quality time with active and adventurous individuals with whom new friendships will develop.

Your day will start with a guided, picturesque downhill bike ride on the Historic Switchback Rail-Trail. Along the ride you’ll pass by Mauch Chunk Lake Park, pedal beside Mauch Chunk Creek, and glide down Broadway. No worries, we have comfort bikes with wide, forgiving seats and upright handle bars to make for a relaxed ride.

After passing our 19th Century Opera House in Opera House Square,  it’s lunch time at JT’s Steak and Ale House – the oldest salon in Jim Thorpe.  With its old European pub atmosphere and casual yet innovative menu JT’s Steak House is sure to satisfy your appetite.

After lunch, you’ll stroll over to the Big Creek Vineyard outlet for a little wine tasting. Like the natural history of the area, their wines are unique and full of character.

When the wine sampling is done, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore and socialize with your fellow adventurers around the charming Historic District of Jim Thorpe. There are quaint shops, mansion tours, museums, train rides, and so much more!

Train Rides & Rapids

All Aboard for a one-hour train excursion on the Lehigh Valley Scenic Railway and a Family-Style Whitewater Rafting adventure on the Lehigh River!

New for 2008 you can now ride the rails and rapids of the Lehigh River Gorge.  Your day will begin via train as you depart the CNJ Train Station in Historic Jim Thorpe. The train line swings onto the former Lehigh Valley main line before passing Glen Onoko, the south gateway to the Lehigh Gorge State Park. You’ll follow the winding Lehigh River, rounding curve after curve until you reach Old Penn Haven where you’ll begin your return ride back to the station.

Now it’s time to gear-up for your Family-Style Rafting Adventure.  You’ll spend about 3 to 4 hours on the river where plentiful riffles and mild water of the Lehigh are occasionally interspersed with a touch of Class II whitewater. This is just perfect for enjoying the passing scenery, kicking your feet over the edge of the raft, splashing family and friends, or taking a swim in the river!  Plus, from June 7th thru September 1st, we’ll even include a Free All-You-Can-Eat BBQ mid-way (hotdogs, potato chips, potato or pasta salad, fruit, lemonade, iced-tea, etc).

Train Rides & Rapids is available weekends June thru October

“Thank your staff for creating some wonderful family memories.  Twelve of us made the river trips on Saturday.  What a hoot!  We plan on making this an annual adventure!”  - Sue Hill

Now, exclusively with Pocono Whitewater you can enjoy the beauty of the Lehigh River Gorge by passenger train then by way of mountain bike.

You and your family will begin your day aboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway passenger train in the Victorian town of Jim Thorpe.  Once departing the train station, you’ll enter the Lehigh Gorge near Glen Onoko – the south gateway to the state park.  As you head up the gorge, sit back, relax and take in all of the outstanding scenery on this 16 mile train excursion.

Once you arrive back at the station, you’ll have some time to grab a bite to eat and browse a few shops. Then, it’s time to get fitted for your bike, take a short shuttle ride, and pedal the Lehigh Gorge.  The Lehigh Gorge is an easy, 100% downhill bike ride.  You’ll have the choice of riding the entire gorge (25-miles) or starting at our mid-way access (15-mile).
